The Tamaraw is the world's rarest and most endangered buffalo species endemic to the Philippine island of Mindoro. With a little over 500 left in the world, the remaining population continues to take several blows – ranging from incessant land clearing to illegal poaching. Through comprehensive multi-party conservation work, the Tamaraw population has been allowed to recover. Further funding, research, and institutional support is both urgent and vital in providing information necessary for the conservation of the remaining Tamaraws.
